As Chief Procurement Officer, Ian is responsible for the oversight of FSU’s procurement operations, strategic sourcing, supplier diversity, procurement card, and electronic procurement functions. In addition, he is responsible for developing and implementing procurement strategies and policies designed to streamline processes, reduce cost, and improve service.
Ian is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point where he majored in Computer Science – Information Systems. He served over 14 years in the US Army in a variety of leadership roles including Executive Officer, Operations Officer, Brigade Comptroller, and Logistics Officer before transitioning to Computer Sciences Corporation in 2004 as a Senior Professional Business Analyst and Team Supervisor. In 2008, Ian joined Smith & Nephew, Inc., a leading medical device manufacturer, and served as a Global Strategic Procurement Manager for indirect materials where he was responsible for $140MM+ in spend and the development and implementation of global procurement category strategies to drive total cost out solutions across four global business units. After several years of living predominately in the southeastern Unites States, Ian decided to pursue a career in Big Sky Montana near his wife’s family. The opportunity came in November 2010 when The University of Montana hired him as the Director of Procurement Services. He spearheaded the effort to transform The University of Montana’s procure-to-pay organization which included the implementation of SciQuest’s electronic procure-to-pay software. Florida State University recruited him in 2014 to serve as its Chief Procurement Officer where he has been active in transforming the procurement organization. Ian’s primary focus has been on providing a customer friendly experience, leveraging industry best practices, and achieving operational excellence.
Ian is very passionate about strategic procurement and thoroughly enjoys the challenge of driving cost savings initiatives and leveraging technology to create efficiencies in processes. He is married to an incredible, wonderful, beautiful, and Godly wife of 20 years. He also has a super amazing 9-year-old son. Ian’s hobbies include spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, and motorsports.
